If Green Dam isn’t Bad Enough in Premise, How About Plain Ole Theft

It looks like China’s Green Dam software, that they are trying to force onto every computer in China, has some IP issues. It looks like they have repurposed CyberSitter’s parental controls to parentally control the whole country.

The file show just how similar CyberSitter’s .dll files and Green Dam’s .dat files are and how similar the code is. Green Dam even has an encrypted file that turns out to be a list of CYBERsitter serial numbers “posted at various illegal “crack” sites and is distributed as part of the CYBERsitter package so that the program can refuse to register if one of these serial numbers is used,” Solid Oak says.

This appears to be a government exercise program. Instead of getting their p0rn from the comfort of their own home, a Chinese citizen will have to walk to the market and buy one of the many pirated dvds. As it says in the Guinness commercials — BRILLIANT!

On a sad note, CYBERsitter won’t get their 5 billion licenses anytime soon.
