I think that you are missing the point. Microsoft has proven, over time, that without competition they do nothing. They don't innovate, they just rest on their laurels. Since the advent of the web, Microsoft has made wrong decision after wrong decision. They can't seem to figure out how to become relevant when (and it is not yet there), the operating system and the word processor becomes a commodity. Bing is there latest attempt and it is not bad (there best in years). Silverlight, however, was misguided. So, in the interest of moving the world forward and toward a world the google can still profit from, it is entirely in google's interest to help shape the direction. Even if they don't win, they will achieve there goal of causing disruption.

Don't really understand why Google is competeing with MS in OS market. It may try to capture Netbook market - but what is the point in launching a open source OS for that? I am sure Google can do better than actually competing with MS.

More thoughts on this @ http://blog.thoughtsinprogress.co.in/2009/07/08...

Rajs
http://thoughtsinprogress.co.in
