Is Microsoft in Decline?

I have never really been a Dvorak fan, but he does make some good points. The number of times Microsoft has copied and not innovated is staggering. He doesn’t even list things like C#, Silverlight, or CLR. Not only are they not innovating in their products, they are copying in areas that were once their strength (dev tools). Maybe that is a good way to sustain. It just seems awfully defensive. Then again, I am trying to remember what Microsoft ever did that was innovative or original. Anybody know?

Anyway, Check out John’s article. It is worth the read.

Everyone knew the day would come when the fortunes of Microsoft Corp. would reverse. The company might now be in actual decline. If it’s true, it brought it on itself by ignoring its core competencies, because it exhibits signs of what can only be described as Corporate Attention Deficit Disorder — CADD. Try to remember all the crazy directions Microsoft has gone in over the past few years. Note the dizzy remarks by Chief Executive Steve Ballmer, who recently insisted that online advertising would soon account for the majority of Microsoft’s income. This is a software company making these comments.
